How do you expect SMUSD to be able to work through their current financial shortfalls?

As we face potential financial shortfalls in the coming years, similar to those we encountered in 2015-2020, we are confronted with challenges from low state revenues and a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA*) of only 1.07%. These conditions will likely create tight financial constraints.

However, I firmly believe that we must not balance the budget on the backs of our children. While difficult decisions will be necessary, I have navigated these tough choices before and have always prioritized the well-being of our students.

I am committed to ensuring that any financial adjustments do not negatively impact our kids' education and future opportunities.

My decisions are made with a deep sense of responsibility, knowing that the outcomes could affect my own children and family. I approach this role with the utmost seriousness, understanding that our children’s education and future are the most crucial aspects of this balancing act.

Together, we can navigate these challenges and continue to provide the high-quality education our students deserve. Your support and trust are vital as we work through these tough times to protect and enhance the future of our schools.

*COLA is based on a federal formula tied to the cost of goods and services but does not factor in regional costs, including housing
